Mac Australian Shepherd Puppy - Teaching a Puppy to Drop and Leave it for a Better Fetch

For this Omaha puppy training session we showed 7 year-old Mini Australian Shepherd Mac to leave it, drop and fetch to stop his anxiety and some compulsive behaviors.

Mac was quite excited when I first arrived for the session so we started things off by discussing starting an exercise journal as well as some creative ways to exercise a dog. Your average dog needs an hour of exercise a day and if they don’t get it, they often get into trouble. Im pretty sure that under exercise was responsible for enhancing some of Mac’s unwanted puppy behavior problems.

One of the ways I like to exercise dogs is to play a game of fetch. But Mac’s guardians said he wouldn’t fetch or when he did, he didn’t drop the ball. I pulled out my camera so I could show Mac’s guardians how to teach a dog to drop, teach a puppy to fetch and the leave it exercise.

Training a dog to leave it and drop are essential when you want to play fetch. I also shared a few tips to help Mac have a better fetch as well. This kind of positive puppy training is both fun and easy. Best part is you don’t have to be a Mini Australian Shepherd puppy trainer to do it.

To help the guardians remember all the dog behavior tips I shared in this in home puppy training session, we shot a roadmap to success video.
