Marshmellow - Tips to Stop a Puppy From Jumping Up on People

For this Los Angeles puppy training session, we teach 6 month Mini Bull Terrier Marshmallow to stop jumping up on guests who come to visit.

I called ahead and arrange for Marshmallow’s guardian to have him on a leash so that I could demonstrate my preferred way of stopping puppies from jumping up on people who come to visit.

In order to stop a puppy from jumping up on people, the guardians will need to arrange to have friends and family members come to visit a few times a week for the next few weeks. If they use this method to stop dog jumping, it shouldn’t take long for Marshmallow to figure out that sitting is a better way to ask for attention.

After going over the secret to stopping puppy jumping, I sat down with the guardians to share some other puppy behavior tips. Although this breed can be determined, you don’t have to specify as a Mini Bull Terrier puppy trainer to use these positive puppy training tips.

One of them was to show the guardian how to stop Marshmallow from mouthing and nipping, how to drop and how to use a Marshmallow to stop her from pulling on the leash.

We also covered how to set boundaries which will be important once the baby the we also covered how to set boundaries which will be important once the new baby comes. Setting the tone and helping the dog practice these new rules and boundaries now will pay off big dividends when the parents are preoccupied with their newborn child.

I also shared number of puppy behavior tips to help marshmallow start to see and identify her humans as being her leaders. Many people think this involves teaching the dog who is boss through force, punishment and retribution.

If you ask any dog behavior expert, they will tell you that force and punishment is a horrible way to train any puppy or dog. Instead we create staged scenarios where the puppy can learn the desired behavior on their own; and when they select the thing that we want them to do, we can reward them richly. In time, this becomes the default behavior that the dog or puppy offers.

To help the guardians remember all of the dog behavior suggestions I made during this in home dog training session, we shot a roadmap to success video.
