Emmie - Stopping a Black Lab Puppy From Jumping Up on People

For this Los Angeles dog training session, we share the secret to stopping a dog from jumping up on people to help 1 year-old Black Lab Emmie learn to calm down and sit instead.

I used a few dog behaviorist tricks when I first arrived to help Emmie calm down before coming inside. Preventing a dog from getting over excited is a key aspect when you are trying to stop a dog from jumping up on people. Just like humans, dogs are more likely to make a mistake when in an unbalanced state of mind.

But in this home, most of the dog jumping on guests occurs at the gate to the back yard. We headed out there to wait for another guardian to arrive so I could share this tip to stop dogs from jumping up on people who arrive. You can learn how to teach a dog to stop jumping by watching the free dog training video below.

The best part of this technique to stop dogs from jumping up is that the dog learns to calm itself down instead of the humans micromanaging the dog. I recommended the guardians call or text one another before arriving home to set things up to practice this stop jumping approach. Id also like to see them arrange to have a friend come over once a day for a few weeks to jump start this new non jumping behavior.

I shared a number of other dog behavior tips in this in home dog training session. To help the guardians remember them all, we filmed a roadmap to success video that you can watch below.
