Ruby - Training Tips for a Stubborn Puppy Breed

In this Omaha puppy training session we worked with Ruby, a French Bulldog puppy, who needed help listening to her guardians and looking to them for direction.

One of the main puppy behavior issues that the guardians wanted to work on was getting Ruby to stop jumping up. To help with this we needed to help Ruby start to see her guardians as leaders in the home instead of as equals. It’s common for puppies to see their guardians as other playful puppies that they can jump on. To see how we started to change the leadership dynamics in the home you can watch the video below using our Leadership Exercise.

Other great puppy training tips to get your puppy to stop jumping up on you or guests is to not make direct eye contact with your puppy when they are jumping up. You also want to ignore their behavior completely. This helps them learn that jumping up does’t gain your attention but being calm and not jumping up will get your attention.

By the end of this puppy behavior session Ruby started to look to her guardians for leadership and direction. For French Bulldog training you want to remember that consistency is key and you need to have more patience than your puppy! We wrapped up this behavior session with Ruby’s Roadmap to Success, which you can watch below.
