Yellow Lab Puppy Training in Omaha Classes

Since we started our puppy classes in 2016, we have seen more than our share of Yellow Lab Puppy owners. In fact, Yellow Labrador puppy is one of our most popular dog breeds. We have had nearly 1,000 Labrador puppies graduate from our program so we have become very familiar with the breed.

A few interesting facts about Labradors.

• Labs are extremely food-motivated, which makes training easier but also leads to counter surfing and scavenging early on
• They tend to stay in a “puppy brain” longer than most breeds, so behaviors like jumping and mouthing last longer.
• Very social and people-driven, so they often jump on people more than independent breeds
• They’re bred to retrieve, so carrying things in their mouth (and chewing) is very natural

Since Yellow Lab puppies are prone to jumping, we start every class with something we call the Celebrate game. This is one of the easiest ways to train any dog, but it’s also a wonderful way to make sure you don’t realize you accidentally train your Yellow Lab puppy to jump.

Yellow Lab Puppy Training To Not Bite

While adult Labradors make amazing family dogs, they can be more than a handful as puppies and those behavior problems can continue into adulthood without early socialization and training. In fact, our dog behavior staff see many Yellow Labradors as adult dogs because they didn’t take puppy classes.  This is often because of the problems that can crop up due to all the energy and over-excitement that are common to the breed.

To make sure the people who call us about Yellow Lab puppy training have a well-socialized adult, we include puppy playtime for recess at the end of every puppy class. This is where puppies develop the confidence, social skills and manners that will guide them for the rest of their life.

A common request we get for Yellow Lab puppy training is to stop puppy biting and nipping. While we cover a few exercises for this behavior problem, other puppies are the best teachers.

In fact, one hour of playing with a puppy of a similar age is equivalent to a having a professional dog trainer work with your puppy for 24 hours a day for 7 days in a row!

Puppy playtime also is a fun way to drain excess energy. Puppy parents often tell us one of their favorite parts of class is how sleepy / tired their puppy is when it gets home!

In addition to the social development that comes with early puppy socialization, puppy playtime wears the pups out. Even our Yellow Lab puppy students!

While our puppy classes place a heavy emphasis on socialization, we also feature nearly 40 basic obedience lessons covering everything from potty training to building a rock-solid recall.

Instead of teaching tricks like roll over and play dead, we emphasize real world lessons like teaching your puppy to feel comfortable around new people, getting handled or having their nails trimmed. Of course our Yellow Lab puppy training includes the core obedience lessons like sit, stay, leave it or how to get a dog to come when you call them.

Yellow Lab Puppy Training Obedience Lessons

Our instructors set each puppy and parent up for success by demonstrating how to teach the lesson with a puppy in class. This allows us to provide a visual example of whatever Yellow Labrador puppy lesson we are teaching that day.

After you watch how to train the lesson, you repeat what you just learned with your own pup. While you do this, your instructor will come over to coach you up and support you until you get the same results.

Our primary objective is to train our Yellow Labrador puppy parents so well that they can replace us! This deepens the relationship between you and your puppy and results in a dog who wants to do what you ask them to do.
