Dog Gone Problems has been invited to present some free dog training workshops at the new downtown Riverfront. These free events take place each Saturday through the fall and will cover a range of training skills and exercises.
Pro tips for success at these events
.
Be sure to bring some high value training treats. There are a lot of distractions at the park, so high value treats (usually meat based with a strong smell work best) are important. If you are unsure, Tricky Trainers are our go to treainig treat.
Having a treat pouch can make a big difference. You need to have soemthing to hold the treats, but also be accessible as the treat needs to be delivered within 2 seconds in most cases. This treat pouch from Petsafe is what our training staff use.
We will hold all of these workshops on the 8th Street Green which is the large open green space just outside the Riverfront Dog Park. If you need driving directions, we suggest searching for 800 Douglas Street which should get you right next to the dog park and 8th Street Green.
While these events are free and open to the public, we ask everyone to be responsible when it comes to bringing dogs who may not do well around unknown people, dogs or location. If your dog is fearful or reactive, leave them to enjoy the AC at home and bring a human friend instead.

Please bring some poop bags and be a responsible dog guardian who cleans up if your dog decides to make a deposit.
If you have a dog with fear, aggression or reactivity around other dogs or people, please do not bring them. Once a dog is reactive, its the equivilent of being hysterical and they will not be able to listen or learn anything. Its best to leave dogs like this at home to enjoy the AC while you come to get the tips, or set up an in home appointment with one of our Dog Behavior Consultants.
Last note, if your dog is uncertain or reactive around dogs or people, please do not punish or reprimand them at these events or anywhere else. The best thing to do is increase the distance between your dog and anything its reactive ot or fearful of. Punishment or corrections will only make it worse. Remember its called Dog Training, Not dog punishment.
All events last for 1 hour except the event on Sat Aug 27th which lasts 2 hours.
