Riggs - Teaching Riggs to Calm Himself Down When People Come to the Door

For this Omaha dog training session we teach 1 year-old Goldendoodle Riggs to calm down when people come to the door.

Many dogs get so excited when people are at the door they cant control themselves. Some dogs jump up when people come to the door, others bark – Riggs did both. I think his territorial or grumpy behavior was a result of us waiting outside for a while then being out on the leash.

This is a great way to teach a dog to dog to calm down when people come to the door. The wonderful thing about training a dog to be calm at the door with this approach is the dog learns on its own. Instead of telling the dog what to do (sit, lay down, etc), the dog learns that being calm results in pets and excitement causes the humans to move away. You can use this for any type of dog, even if you are not a professional Goldendoodle dog trainer.

We shared a number of other dog behavior tips in this in home Omaha dog training session. To help the guardians remember all of them, we recorded a roadmap to success video.
