Quest Learns to Use the Stairs
As a dog behaviorist I have had a few client’s with dogs who were fearful of stairs due to not experiencing them when the puppy was in its critical socialization period. I wanted to make sure that wasn’t the case with Quest.
My home in Omaha Nebraska is a ranch style house without any stairs so I made sure to take advantage of them when I took Quest to my parent’s house for a visit.
Stairs can be pretty scary for a puppy. That’s a long ways to go up or down. For most pups and small dogs, going up is easier than going down so if your puppy has this fear, start by going up.
The last thing you want to do is drag or pull your pup up or down the stairs, this will only validate the pup’s fears and make things worse.
In this video we watch Quest as he learns to use the stairs with a little encouraging from me. I also share a secret that has allowed me to help many dogs get over their fear of the stairs.Tags: Critical Socialization Period, Dalmatian, fear of stairs, nebraska, Omaha, puppy, QuestEdDal, teach a dog to use stairs
