We are always looking for humans who are great with teaching or training dogs and puppies. Think you may have what it takes?
We are looking for more than someone who loves dogs. While we are dog lovers ourselves, when it comes to hiring, we are looking for people with a real passion and skillset to work with dogs.
This means you have an innate gift for relating to dogs. You are comfortable with dogs and seem to be able to reach them better than other people. Likely something that came naturally to you.
Anyone who joins our team understands that we use a +R (Positive Reinforcement) only approach. We do not believe in punishing dogs, using alpha rolls, choke chains, pinch or prong collars, physical or leash corrections, yelling or other aggressive, dominating or punishment based tools or methods.
Our philosophy is to put the dogs in a position to succeed by teaching them what we want them to do or how to behave in a methodical step-by-step process in the easiest situation possible. We intentionally stack the deck in the dog’s favor to give it the best chance to succeed. Once the dog develops the core skillset, only then do we start increasing the level of difficulty until we work the dog up to real world situations.
Our ideal candidates come to us with some experience with dogs, but we would consider the right candidate even if they don have first person experience. Here are some of the skills we are impressed with:
- Self motivated. Working with dogs is fun. If this isn’t your passion and you need someone to micromanage you, this is not the job for you.
- Attention to detail. You need to pay attention to the little things when it comes to training a dog or fixing dog behavior problems.
- Take pride in your work. We went people who are passionate about working with dogs and go the extra mile on their own.
- Takes Initiative. We are looking for people who are proactive when it comes to asking for more responsibility or things that need to be done instead of waiting for someone to tell you.
If you have the gift for relating to dogs, one of the job postings below suits your skillset and think you would make a good add-on to the Dog Gone Problems team, we’d love to hear from you.
