Omaha Dog Trainer Featured on WOWT During 10-Year Puppy Class Celebration

Award-winning Omaha dog trainer Dog Gone Problems was recently featured by WOWT for hosting a free community dog training workshop at Omaha’s Gene Leahy Mall. You can watch their news story below.

The event celebrated the 10-year anniversary of our puppy training classes while giving local dog owners practical tips they could immediately put to use.

We love sharing the power of positive dog training by teaching people how to train their own dogs. We feel that when the dog learns from their humans, it strengthens the bond between them. One of our goals as an Omaha dog trainers is to teach our clients so well they no longer need us.

We went over some of the core fundamental dog training tips we share with our clients that speed up their dog training like using a marker word. We also shared tips on how to teach a dog to come when called, the importance of showing your dog what you want by celebrating the behaviors you like, when to introduce verbal cues and how to fade the lure.

These are some of the more common things we go over with our clients as an Omaha dog trainer who exclusively uses positive dog training methods. It’s not hard to motivate a dog to want to do what you want, once you’ve shown them what success looks like.

When I was doing one of the dog training demos on stage, we met a young girl named Korie, who may turn out to be a future Omaha dog trainer. Korie and her mom were sitting in the front row and let us use her awesome dog Patches to demonstrate how to lure a dog when training a new skill.

Although many people think of us as an Omaha dog trainer a large percentage of the requests we receive are actually for dog behavior problems like jumping up, barking and guarding things.

As a result we spent a good portion of time discussing what their humans can do to help them feel more comfortable and confident.  Many people confuse their dog’s emotional response with intentional actions, we went over some dog body language basics, cut off signals and how to read dog consent.

Now since these dog training events are to celebrate the ten year anniversary of our puppy classes, we also spent some time going over some puppy class tips and debunking some of the more common misconceptions on raising puppies.

We started our positive puppy classes in 2016 when we realized that 90% of the people who hire us to fix behavior problems like fear, aggression and separation anxiety would not have needed our help had they simply taken a good puppy class when their dog was young.

10 years and nearly 8,000 puppy class graduates later, we couldn’t be prouder of the puppy school we created.  Helping puppies learn to sit to ask for attention, be socially confident and feel good being around other dogs are the gifts that last a lifetime.

We even had a few of our puppy class graduates come out to say hi and have some fun in the doggy dip pools and splash pads we set up.
