An Easy Way to Stop a Santa Monica Dog From Barking at the Doorbell

For this Santa Monica dog training session we worked with a 5 year-old Poodle Bichon mix Olivia, stopping her from barking when people ring the door.
I met Olivia outside her home as her super nice guardian saved me a parking spot as parking in this part of Santa Monica is a challenge. I offered her a few treats to make sure she had a positive experience. This is super simple dog behavior trick that works wonders with most dogs.
Once we got inside, I discussed a number of other things that were likely related to the dog barking at sounds outside the home. Many people shush or correct a dog from barking, but since good attention and bad attention are almost the same thing to dogs, this often rewards or amplifies the behavior.
