Moby LA Shih Tzu puppy - Teaching a Shih Tzu Puppy to Love his Kennel

For this Los Angeles puppy training session we helped 11 week-old Shih Tzu Moby learn some puppy basics and teach him to go into his travel kennel.

Moby was pretty chill when I first met him. He had eaten something the night before that didn’t agree with him, poor guy. Fortunately her was feeling much better.

Because his guardian is a first time dog puppy guardian, I spent a lot of time covering puppy basics. How important it is to get early socialization in, enroll him in puppy classes and the power of positive dog training.

Moby is a pretty bright little puppy. It only took me a few reps before he was sitting, laying down (chill), sitting up and standing for me.

Id like to see the guardian practicing this exercise 2-4 times a day for the next week or two; only saying the command word after treating the dog for moving into the desired position. After a week or so, the guardian can start asking for the act “sit” then rewarding it once it completes the action.

For puppy training, you want to wait on assigning a command word until he dog has the action down, otherwise you can confuse them into thinking part of the act is all you want it to do.

Because he will be traveling with his guardian on plane trips, I showed her how to train a puppy to go to a crate on command.

Puppy crate training like this is so easy and pays off big time with a little practice. Towards the end of the session we used a variant of this to motivate Moby to get into his wire crate, something he had refused to do before the session. This sort of crate training is pretty universal. When I caught his guardian getting emotional on the side seeing how quickly he was learning, I had a big smile on my face. Puppies are awesome.

I finished up this in home LA puppy training session by shooting a roadmap to success video for the guardian.
