For this Omaha dog training session we were called in to help Milo, a 1 year-old Lab and his roomie 6 year-old Border Collie Cooper – teaching them to run away from the door when the doorbell rings.
I covered a number of dog behavior tips in this session, including how to teach a dog to stay out of the kitchen. We taught that lesson right before we worked on teaching the dogs to move away from the door when the bell rings and the previous kitchen lesson was a little unsettling for Milo who is a sensitive dog.
Since Milo wasn’t feeling 100%, I do more describe how to teach a dog to move away from the door when the door bell rings instead of demonstrating. Regardless, the video below includes a number of tips to train a dog to walk away from the door when someone rings the doorbell.
This is a great dog behavior secret that for anyone who has a dog who likes to run out an open door. This works for all breeds and human training experience levels, even if you are not a professional Lab or Border Collie dog trainer. If the guardians practice this secret to getting a dog to move away from the door when the door bell is rung a few times a day for a week or two (with each dog separately), they should see some fast results.
We covered a number of other dog behavior topics in this in home Omaha dog training session so we filmed a roadmap to success video to help the humans remember them all.
