- Teaching a West Hollywood Dog to Stop Jumping on People

For this West Hollywood dog training session, we trained 4 year-old Standard Poodle Maxwell its not nice to jump on guests when he is over excited.

Because one of Maxwell’s primary issues was jumping up excitedly on guests who visit his home, I called ahead to set things up. I see a lot of situations where people put their dog in a position to fail.

I wanted to create a scenario where I could show the guardians how they could teach their dog to stop jumping up on people by re-creating the guest arrival ritual. When it comes to modifying dog behavior, you need to create a situation where you control the environment and put the dog in a position to succeed by limiting distractions and other elements that may make it more difficult for the dog.

I had one of the guardians come outside so I could give them a few instructions on this technique to stop dogs from jumping up as well as hand them my camera so we could film the process.

If you want to know how to get a dog to stop jumping up on people, the free dog training video above holds the secret. The key is to practice this stop jumping secret a few times a day. I suggested that they call or text one another before they get home so they can pretend to be a guest. However, it will also be important for the guardians to have neighbors and friends practice as well. Otherwise the dog may start to figure out when only one of the humans is home that it’s the other one outside the door.

We spent the rest of the session going over dog behavior tips that should help flip the leader follower as well as motivate Maxwell to offer desired behaviors instead of those they dislike. Ive found many a Standard Poodle trainer addresses many smaller issues that pop up on a daily basis to get the best results.

To help the humans remember the dog behavior suggestions I shared with them in this in-home dog training session, shot a roadmap to success video.
