Huck Scout and Goose - Tips to Help a Trio of Goldendoodle to Calm Down When Guests Come to the Door

For this Omaha dog training session we worked with three Goldendoodles; Huck, Scout and Goose – teaching the dogs to calm down and stop jumping on people at the door.

Goose is the dog who likes to jump up on guests at the door so I called ahead to have the guardian put away Huck and Scout. My secret to stopping a dog from jumping up on people uses counterconditioning. You can learn how to use my tip to stop dog jumping up on people by watching the free dog training video below.

The really cool thing about this technique to stop a dog from jumping up on guests at the door is that the dog learns on its own rather than the humans micromanaging it.

While Huck and Scout don’t jump up on people, they get super excited when people come to the door. We filmed another positive dog training video with tips to help dogs learn to calm down at the door.

The guardians can use this technique to help the dogs calm down by practicing this every time they let them through a baby gate, door or other barrier. It will take some practice, but if the guardians are consistent, eventually the dogs will learn that being calm gets them things and being excited does not. This is an easy thing to do, you don’t have to be a professional Goldendoodle dog trainer to do it.

We covered a number of other things in this in home Omaha dog training session. To help the guardians remember them all, we recorded a roadmap to success video.
