Golden Retriever puppy training in Omaha

Our Golden Retriever puppy training in Omaha is done through our family friendly group classes. They will help your pup build the skills they need to grow into a calm, confident adult dog.

You can get more about our classes below, but if you want to go ahead and get enrolled, you can view all of our Omaha puppy training class options here.

Since 2012, Dog Gone Problems has helped puppy parents teach their puppies everything they need to know to grow up to be amazing adult dogs. We achieve this by teaching the humans as much as we do the puppies. Our ultimate goal is to teach you to replace your instructor.

Golden Retrievers often grow up to be wonderful family dogs, service dogs, and therapy dogs — but they can be a real handful as puppies.

We know this from firsthand experience. We’ve worked with nearly 1,000 Golden Retriever puppies in the Omaha area over the last 10 years, so we understand exactly how their behavior develops and how to guide it properly.

Our 100% positive Golden Retriever puppy training in Omaha places a heavy emphasis on stopping dog behavior problems before they start. The first few months a puppy is in it’s new home is where many of the unwanted behaviors come from. Starting off on the right paw now saves time, headaches and many chewed up sneakers later, lol.

But stopping a Golden Retriever puppy from developing unwanted behaviors (think nipping, jumping, chewing, barking…) isn’t all that hard, if you know what to do (or in many cases, not do). Since we got our start fixing dog behavior problems, our classes are more than just sit and roll over. We prepare your puppy for life.

Golden Retriever Puppy Training in Omaha

Our Golden Retriever puppy classes meet for one hour a week, for 4 consecutive weeks. We have 3 class levels; Puppy Kindergarten, Puppy Elementary and Puppy High School. The classes are designed to be taken together as we scheduled our lesson plan to coincide with puppy developmental stages. This is one of the reasons our classes are so impactful. You can see our current Omaha puppy class options here.

Classes were designed by our founder, David Codr who is the area’s most experienced dog behavior expert. He has personally fixed thousands of dog problems, most in only one visit. By approaching things from a dog behavior perspective, his goal is to show you how to motivate your Golden Retriever puppy to want to listen to you and do the things you want.

Our lessons include the basics like sit, come, potty training and over 30 others. More importantly, we also show you how to take advantage of the Critical Socialization Period to build the social skills, confidence and manners that will last the rest of your pup’s life.

Speaking of manners, this is one of the games we start each class with. We call it Celebrating and it’s one of the easiest ways to teach any puppy or adult dog. We’re happy to share this free Golden Retriever puppy training tip in the video below.

Golden Retriever Puppy Biting & Nipping

One of the most common requests for help we get is how to stop Golden Retriever puppy nipping.  Many people dont realize that mouthing, biting and nipping are three of the most common puppy behaviors for a reason. They need to learn how to use their mouth without using their teeth.

Golden Retriever puppies tend to use their mouths more than many breeds because they were bred to retrieve and carry objects. This makes nipping and mouthing especially common during play.

And a puppy training tip most people dont know is that puppy nipping and puppy biting need to be fixed when they are a puppy. And the absolute best way to stop puppy nipping is by playing with other puppies. This is why we include playtime at the end of each puppy class, but we go one step further.

We have a private Facebook group with over 3,000 members, all puppies who are in or have taken our puppy classes. This allows you to set up puppy playdates outside of class.  Puppies learn more about not nipping in one hour of playing with another puppy than if a dog trainer worked with your puppy for 24 hours a day for a week straight.

Golden Retriever Puppy Jumping

Another common problem we get asked about is what they can do to stop Golden Retriever puppy jumping.  Well we cover tips on that problem in all three of our puppy classes. Many people say “no” or “get down,” but this actually rewards the puppy for the behavior. We will show you a better approach so you don’t accidentally train your Golden Retriever puppy to jump up on people (this is so common).

Golden Retrievers are extremely social and people-focused, which means they often jump more than independent breeds. They’re trying to get closer to your face, not misbehave. So while it’s not what we want, we need to know your pup is trying to communicate positively. That’s where our Golden Retriever puppy training in Omaha will help you.

Golden Retriever Puppy Potty Training

Since no one wants their puppy to have accidents in the house, we have created a super easy way to potty train your puppy. Our method is so easy, and best of all, it motivates your Golden Retriever puppy to want to let you know they need to go out to potty! Your days of finding piddles and number two left in the house are an easy fix with our positive puppy classes.

Golden Retriever Puppy Behavior Problems

There are a number of other unwanted puppy behaviors we also tackle with our Golden Retriever puppy training in Omaha. We will show you how to build impulse control (a crucial lesson if you want your puppy to restrain itself), develop a rock solid recall, back up out of your way and make sure your pup doesn’t develop Separation Anxiety (another way too common problem that is easily avoided with the right approach).

Sometimes puppies come into our class with lower confidence. This is unsual for young puppies but happens quite often. The great thing about this puppy behavior problem is it is very fixable, if you take the right approach and start when they are young.

In the video below you get to watch three Golden Retriever puppies grow their confidence in our puppy class right before your eyes.

So if you have a Golden Retriever pup who coudl help with their confidence, get them into class ASAP. As you can see, its fixable, but the longer it goes on, the harder it is to fix.

Well thats a summary of some of the wonderful things we do in our puppy school. If you are looking for help with any and all of your Golden Retriever puppy behavior problems, these are the classes for you.

Since 2016, we have taught thousands of puppies the lessons every dog should know while also helping them develop their confidence and social skills. Our classes are 100% positive and include supervised playtime at the end of each class to help puppies learn to socialize properly.
