People are often surprised when I tell them that I have rehabilitated thousands of dogs but less than 1% need more than one in home visit. They ask me for the secret of how Im abel to help dogs change their behavior so quickly.

Well the secret is than I am NOT a dog trainer, Im a dog behaviorist. I like that say dog trainers teach dogs, where behaviorists teach people. Instead of showing you a number of exercises and asking you to practice them over and over, I suggest a number of small changes to common things you do with your dog every day.

I show people how to pet their dogs a little differently. Talk to the dog a little differently. Walk them differently. Feed them differently. The changes are tiny and once you get into a habit of doing them. you do so without even thinking. But each time you do, its a mini dog obedience training session you do without even trying.

There is a big difference between dog psychology and dog training. Dog trainers are great for training (which helps dogs in many ways), but they tend to chase symptoms instead of getting to the root cause.

If your dog barks, and you try to stop it from barking without addressing the cause for the barking, you are only going to exchange one problem for another.
