Diego - Training Tips and Tricks for Diego the Woodland Hills Golden Retreiver Puppy

Diego is a three-month-old Golden Retreiver puppy who was just welcomed into a home in Woodland Hills, CA. His guardian set up an in home puppy training session to stop his biting, puppy nipping, mouthing and stop barking.

Diego met me at the door with his buddy Pinky, a twelve-year-old Chihuahua. Diego had a nice mellow energy showing good curiosity and confidence; giving me some kisses and doing a little nuzzling.

I sat down with his guardian and went over a bunch of puppy training secrets and puppy behavior tips to stop puppy nipping, chewing and mouthing.

I recommended that the guardian check out the puppy section, aka Quest Ed, on our website for tips on appropriate puppy toys, feeding, potty training and other puppy training tips.

Once we finished the puppy behavior part of the session, I showed Diego’s guardian how to train a puppy to sit, lay down, sit up and come on command. It took about 10 minutes for him to figure all that out. This is one smart puppy.

I strongly recommended that the guardian sign Diego up for a puppy socialization class. The sooner you get your puppy playing and interacting with other puppies the same size and maturity level the better. This helps the develop the problem solving and social skills they will need for the rest of their life. Id estimate 80% or more of the dogs I get called in to fix did not go to puppy socialization classes so I always recommend people invest in a 4-8 week series of classes to head off problems before they actually start.

We finished up the session by going over Diego’s roadmap to success in the video below.
