Chloe - Great Tips for Stopping a Little Dog from Barking

We worked with a three-year-old Morkie named Chloe in Omaha to learn how to spin and play the touch game to decrease her barking and reactivity.

Chloe was having issues barking at guests when they arrived. Often times when dogs are barking like this it is stemming from being fearful of new people. To help capture Chloe’s anxiety and turn it into a positive reaction and make a positive association with new people I taught her guardian a couple of tricks to keep Chloe focused:

As you can see in the video above Chloe was still a little hesitant to offer new behaviors instead of just sitting for the treat. However, once Chloe makes the connection that she can do more behaviors for treats she will have an easier time learning new tricks in the future.

By the end of the dog training session Chloe was learning how to relax when guests arrived and looking to her guardian for leadership and direction. I want to remind her guardian to use our Petting with a Purpose technique to reward Chloe for good behavior.
