Chester - Stopping a Dog From Barking When He Hears the Doorbell

For this Omaha dog training session we work with 1 year-old Corgi Chester, teaching him to stop barking when people ring the doorbell.

Stopping a dog from barking at the doorbell is a multi step process. First you need to help the dog understand its not its job to guard the home. I did this by sharing a number of tips for the guardians to flip the leader follower dynamic.

Using counterconditioning to stop a dog from barking when it hears the door bell is a great way to stop dog barking if you know what it is the dog is barking about and can trigger the stimulus on demand. This allows you to teach the dog to stay quiet when the door bell rings as it develops a positive association with the stimulus.

To help the guardians remember all the other dog behavior tips we covered in this in home dog training session, we recorded a roadmap to success video that you can check out below.
