For this Omaha dog training session we teach 2 year-old mixed breed dog Charlie to stop jumping up on guests who visit his home.
It took me about 3 seconds to fall in love with Charlie, he has a really warm, playful and gentle energy to him. As Omaha’s Dog Behavior expert, usually when Im called in to work with a dog, it has a miriad of dog behavior problems. Not Charlie, he only had a few minor issues, one of which was a bad habit of jumping up on people who come to visit.
I called ahead and set up my favorite way to stop a dog from jumping up on people. I love using this technique as its a super easy way to teach a dog to stop jumping up on people. Best of all, the dog learns on its own instead of the humans micromanagaing the dog. You can learn how to train a dog to stop jumping up on guests by watcing the free positive dog training video below.
Charlie is far from the worst jumping dog I have worked with, but this secret to stopping dog jumping will still do the trick. I recommended the guardians play the part of the guest when they come home and use the front door instead of the door to the garage. The more the humans practice this method to stop dog jumping, combined with petting with a purpose and passive training, the less the dog will jump up onto people.
We covered a number of other dog behavior tips in this in home Omaha dog training session. To help the humans remember them all, we filmed a roadmap to success video at the end of the session to sumarize everything.
