Buddy Beagle scaled - Tips to Stop a Beagle from Potty Training Problems Inside

For this Omaha dog training session, we worked with Buddy, a 7-year-old rescue Beagle who is having potty training issues.

After talking with Buddy’s guardian, I learned that Buddy was also having a hard time with potty training. Buddy doesn’t know how to tell his guardian he needs to go potty outside. The video below from David discusses how to stop a dog from having accidents in the house and to ring bell to tell the humans it needs to go out.

One of the things we did was introduce a touch command for Buddy. Buddy’s guardian can eventually use this command to introduce a potty training bell. After I practicing a couple times with Buddy, his guardian practiced as well.

Buddy is a very excited Beagle and loves when people come to visit. One thing I practiced was teaching the dog to calm down when people are at the door. Here’s another free positive dog training video that goes over tips to help a dog learn to calm down at the door.

This exercise to teach dogs to calm down at the door works well because the dogs learns the behavior on their own instead of us micromanaging them. Training a dog to be calm at the door is easy, it just takes practice.

I also discussed with Buddy’s guardian the importance of structure. We talked about passive training and petting with a purpose.

To help Buddy’s guardian remember all of the dog behavior tips we covered in this in home Omaha dog training session, we recorded a roadmap to success video.
